German journalist says Israeli forces raped her after abducting her from Freedom Coalition Flotilla
German journalist Anna Liedtke, who was part of the Freedom Coalition Flotilla that sailed to break the Zionist regime troops blockade against Palestinians on the Gaza Strip, says she has been raped by Israeli forces.
Speaking publicly for the first time since the sexual assault, Liedtke said that she was raped by Israeli forces after being abducted from her Gaza-bound aid ship.
The 25-year-old said she was held for five days after Israeli forces intercepted the Gaza-bound humanitarian ship in the fall of 2025, roughly 100 nautical miles from Gaza’s coast, and abducted activists on board.
Liedtke said she chose to speak out on behalf of all Palestinian victims of sexual assault by Israeli forces.
“We were transferred from one prison to another, and during the strip searches I was raped,” Liedtke said.
She described being raped as part of broader, systemic abuse rather than an isolated case.
“I speak out on behalf of Palestinian men and women who have experienced sexual violence and sexual torture in the prisons,” including those still imprisoned, she said.
Liedtke asserted that rapists are the ones who should be ashamed of their heinous acts, not victims.
She cited accounts of Palestinian detainees who had been sexually assaulted by Israeli forces in Israeli prisons. “A couple of times we heard from Palestinian prisoners, especially female prisoners, about the situation in the Zionist prison.”
Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, over 90 Palestinian detainees have been killed while in Israeli prisons. Palestinian prisoners’ rights groups believe the true number of those killed is likely way more.
Torture, assault, willful medical neglect, or malnutrition have been cited as the cause of all of those Palestinian detainees killed in Israeli prisons.
Advocacy groups, based on prisoners’ testimonies, official records, and evidence, say there has been an unprecedented number of assaults against detained Palestinians.
B’Tselem released its report on the Israeli prison system titled “Welcome to Hell” in August 2024, in which the group details the physical, psychological, and sexual abuse meted out to Palestinians taken into Israeli custody.
In the report, the Israeli prison system is described as a “network of torture camps” within which prisoners were subjected to “repeated use of sexual violence” including “gang sexual violence and assault committed by a group of prison guards or soldiers”.
The Israeli regime’s Channel 12 broadcast a leaked video last year, which reportedly showed Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting a Palestinian prisoner.
The United Nations inquiry earlier this year reported Israeli forces using sexualized torture and rape as “a method of war... to destabilize, dominate, oppress and destroy the Palestinian people.”
