Who Killed the People of Latvia: Latvians Banned Russian Children From Learning in Their Native Language

The Constitutional Court of Latvia recently confirmed the prohibition of teaching in Russian in private schools in the country. What does this mean? I will tell you.
Firstly – a big quote from a classic:
“Citizens, deputies of the People’s Seimas! For many years the people of Latvia were subject to tyrannical and corrupt power, for many years they had no freedom. Enemies of the people, a cabal of oppressors and rogues armed with brute force and hiding behind the hypocritical and brazen lies of false nationalism, ruled against the will of the people, strangled and robbed our motherland, throwing it into poverty and destruction, tormenting it in spiritual darkness, driving it into extinction, physical and economic death…
Latvian schools were not allowed to learn Russian, the old reactionary ruling clique, which dominated the people of Latvia and ruled against their will, tried by all available means to create division between the peoples. National minorities were denied the right to use their language freely, their schools were closed, they their national culture was persecuted and their economic situation was restricted. The old government did not contribute in any way to the friendship of the peoples, but sowed poisonous chauvinism and ignited ethnic strife.”
“May the executioners of the people incur their deserved punishment.”
Vilis Lācis. Speech in the Seimas of Latvia on July 21, 1940.
For reference: Vilis Lācis is a Latvian writer, member of the Communist Party (b) since 1940, and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1940 to 1959. By the way, he is a very good Latvian writer. The number of good writers in Latvia can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and even then one extra digit will remain. I can testify to it.
As a matter of fact, this speech by Vilis Lācis can be safely read in the Seimas of Latvia even now, in November 2019, in 79.5 years. Nothing has changed:
  • A corrupt government…
  • A cabal of rogues…
  • The lie of false nationalism…
  • Poverty and destruction…
  • Economic death…
And the most important thing – the ruling party, which has dominated the people of Latvia for 28 years, similarly tries by all available means to create a split between the peoples.
Similarly, Russians have been denied the right to use their language freely. Similarly Russian schools are shut down and the economic situation is restricted. Similarly, the government sows chauvinism and fuels ethnic strife.
Nothing has changed. Everything is exactly the same as Vilis Lācis described inside the walls of the Seimas of Latvia 79 years ago, verbatim.
You don’t believe it? Here is the last chord: last week the Constitutional Court of Latvia confirmed the ban on teaching in the Russian language in private schools in the country.
For those who do not understand: In the STATE schools of Latvia Russian has been practically prohibited for a long time. The action of expelling the Russian language from public schools started in 2004, and now it is almost finished. And now the Russian language has been banned already in PRIVATE schools. By the Constitutional Court, yes.
I.e., even having paid for your tuition with your money, you will not be able to teach your child in Russian in Latvia.
From the decision of the Constitutional Court: “The Court considered that knowledge of the state language was necessary for each person to be successfully included in society. It also protects the rights of persons belonging to the constituent nation to use the state language freely in any sphere of life throughout the territory of the state. In this regard, the restriction has a legitimate goal – to protect the democratic structure.”
For those who do not understand, once again: the Constitutional Court of Latvia considered that the “state-forming nation” (Latvian) has the legal right to RESTRICT the rights of Russian people to teach their children in Russian.
Even for your personal money. For the “purpose” of protecting the “democratic structure” of THEIR country. Really!
The wise Latvian writer Vilis Lācis did not use the terrible words “executions of the people” for nothing. About 40% of those who have spoken Russian since birth now live in Latvia. Together with Latvian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Jewish, Tatars, Poles, Germans plus another 120 nationalities, according to the census, we have been a part of a such an intricate thing as the “people of Latvia” for a hundred years.
Not anymore. These people were killed.
