Zalmay Khalilzad: AIPAC and the Israel lobby insist on Kurdistan independence
American politician Zalmay Khalilzad served as U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq and the United Nations.
He described U.S. positions in the invasion of Iraq and the formation of Kurdistan Region in his famous book, “The Envoy: From Kabul to the White House, My Journey Through a Turbulent World”.
According to a report published on the Website of Columbia University in New York, Khalilzad announced at the research summit of professors of the Faculty of Political Science in Columbia University: “there has always been disagreement over the independence of Kurdistan in the United States. AIPAC and the Israel lobby has been able to adjust the CIA and Congress on Kurdish independence due to their influence. While the Pentagon and other US officials have insisted on maintaining the integrity and stability of Iraq.”
Barzani has trusted the promise of some US factions, but by holding a referendum, he will dramatically increase security and economic threats to Kurdistan Region. Personally, I did not expect Barzani to make such a valiantly and wrong decision at this historic level. Barzani believes that he will record his name in history at the end of his political life. But there is a serious doubt and ambiguity in this theory, in contrast, there is no doubt the Kurdish nation will face excessive cost and real threats in the failure of Kurdistan independence.
