An EMP Attack on the U.S. Power Grids and Critical National Infrastructure

An EMP Attack on the U.S. Power Grids and Critical National Infrastructure: Three high-altitude nuclear detonations above the continental United States instantly act to destroy the solid-state electronics that control the operation of most U.S. critical national infrastructure – including the Emergency Power Systems and active Emergency Core Cooling Systems of 26 commercial nuclear reactors, which subsequently melt down. Within seconds, EMP waves act to collapse and wreck all three U.S. electric power grids. The E3A Blast Wave from a fourth nuclear detonation over the Yucatan Peninsula strikes a final, fatal blow to the Extra High Voltage (EHV) Circuit Breakers and Large Power Transformers (LPTs) that are required to distribute 90% of the electricity transmitted in the U,S. Most of the U.S. will be without electric power for more than a year because LPTs and EHV Circuit Breakers are not stockpiled; current lead times for EHV Circuit Breakers is 40 to 60 weeks and lead times for LPTs is 80 to 210 weeks.
