The community spread of
Covid-19
continued in Hong Kong on Friday as the city recorded at least 60 more confirmed and preliminary infections, with a potential new cluster emerging in another elderly care centre, according to two medical sources.
Among the newly confirmed cases is a New World First Bus driver, who on Monday and Tuesday drove four buses along Route 23, which links North Point with Pok Fu Lam.
He felt unwell on Wednesday and was confirmed infected on Friday morning, according to a statement from the bus company. Bus drivers working or eating alongside him will be quarantined.
Some residents and members of staff at the Jockey Club Harmony Villa, an elderly care centre run by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in Wong Chuk Hang on Hong Kong Island, had also tested preliminary positive and were being treated in Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai, according to a source.
The new cases raise concerns of another possible outbreak in care homes for the elderly. The first, striking
Kong Tai Elderly Care Centre
in Tsz Wan Shan, has so far infected at least 42 elderly residents and employees, according to official figures, with two fatalities.
Meanwhile, an editor working for local newspaper Hong Kong Economic Times also tested preliminary positive, after a member of her family caught the virus earlier.

As of Thursday, the city’s overall tally reached 1,655 cases, with 10 related deaths. Since July 6, 120 out of 299 local infections have been untraceable.
