Turkey Says It's Ready To Supply Electricity To Syria And Lebanon

Turkey is working to resolve the energy supply issues in Syria and is ready to provide electricity to the country, where Ankara supported the rebels who toppled Bashar al-Assad earlier this month, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Monday.
“The vast majority of people meet their electricity needs with generators, so there is actually a very serious need for electricity,” Reuters quoted Bayraktar as telling reporters in Turkey.
Currently, Turkey supplies power to some parts of northern Syria. Now Turkey has vowed to help the war-torn country after the 13-year-long civil war.
Turkey is also ready to supply electricity to Lebanon, according to the Turkish energy minister.
A team of Turkish government officials is already on the ground in Syria and has had high-level contacts with the current de facto leader in Syria, the rebel leader Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The Turkish team has been discussing energy cooperation with Syria and how Syria’s oil and natural gas resources could be used to provide energy, Bayraktar said.
Turkish firm Karpowership, which owns a fleet of floating power plants, told Reuters on Monday that it is being considered as one of the alternatives for providing electricity to Syria.
“There are talks between countries, alternatives are being evaluated. It is too early for us to say anything at this stage,” Karpowership said in a statement to Reuters.
Turkey has also signaled that it wants to take part in the revival of oil and gas production in Syria.
“We are also studying the use of crude oil and natural gas for reconstruction of Syria,” Minister Bayraktar said last week.
“We plan to tell our counterparts how we can make contributions in that sense. Our objective is to develop these projects.”
Bayraktar also said there were plans for new oil and gas pipelines between Syria and Turkey.

'Green' Scottish Ferry Emits Far More CO2 Than Old Diesel Ship

The CO2 emissions of a long-delayed and over-budget ‘green’ Scottish ferry will be far larger than that of the 31 year-old diesel ship it is set to replace.

An emissions analysis by CalMac has calculated MV Glen Sannox will emit 10,391 equivalent tonnes of CO2 a year compared with 7,732 for MV Caledonian Isles.
The dual-fuel ferry has more car capacity but requires larger engines which also emit methane, a greenhouse gas with a far greater global warming effect than CO2.
Ferries procurement agency CMAL, which owns the ship, said the comparison was “inaccurate” as Glen Sannox is a larger vessel.
The size of Glen Sannox is a factor in its carbon footprint, but so too is the liquified natural gas (LNG) fuel which is less climate-friendly than previously claimed.
One expert on transport emissions told BBC News that if the “upstream” carbon cost of importing LNG from Qatar is included in the emissions calculation, it might be better to run the new ship on diesel.
Prof Tristan Smith, from University College London’s Energy Institute, said: “In a best case scenario there’s a negligible benefit of using LNG, and at worst there would be a deterioration.”
Glen Sannox is the first ferry ever built in the U.K. capable of running on both LNG and marine gas oil (MGO), a low-sulphur type of diesel.
At its launch in 2017, then First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said it would contribute to “Scotland’s world-leading climate change goals”.
But the LNG technology also added complexity. The Ferguson shipyard had to overcome many engineering and regulatory challenges before the ship was delivered last month, years late and over budget.
The size of the ship also means it cannot berth at the usual mainland harbour at Ardrossan until a major redevelopment takes place.
Once again the benefits of a ‘green’ technology are hugely oversold. When will they learn that they’ve immersed themselves in a delusion?

China has reportedly constructed new military outposts in the Tawang Valley, according to an analysis of high-resolution satellite images from December 19 obtained by open-source intelligence teams.
The images, sourced from Maxar Technologies, reveal the rapid establishment of new structures following the disengagement of Chinese and Indian troops in the region.
The satellite analysis indicates the presence of three new outposts in the region. These positions are strategically located to restrict Indian patrol routes in three directions, effectively reducing the extent of patrol areas claimed by Indian forces.
The satellite imagery underscores China’s swift construction efforts in the aftermath of the troop disengagement. Observers note that the development aligns with Beijing’s strategy to reinforce its presence along disputed border areas while adhering to negotiated terms.
The Tawang Valley has long been a flashpoint in the broader Sino-Indian border dispute. Located near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), it has been a site of frequent tensions and standoffs between the two countries’ militaries. Both sides agreed to disengage following heightened tensions earlier in the year, with each withdrawing troops from forward positions.
However, the latest developments indicate that China has leveraged the disengagement period to fortify positions behind the LAC. Analysts believe these outposts are designed to provide a tactical advantage by monitoring and restricting Indian troop movements in the area.
China’s rapid construction of infrastructure along disputed borders is not new. Over the years, it has developed roads, airstrips, and bases in contested areas to assert its claims and improve its logistical capabilities. In Tawang Valley, these new outposts appear to follow a similar pattern, enabling Beijing to maintain control over the region despite agreements to scale back military presence.

Is Taurine The Elixir Of Life? Considerations For Supplementation

Throughout history, humans—from commoners to emperors—have sought the secret to slowing aging. In modern society, scientists continue researching nutrients that effectively combat aging. We will delve into one such nutrient that may help fight aging: taurine.
Taurine, an amino acid derived from the breakdown of proteins, is primarily found in animal-based foods, such as beef, seafood, and dairy products. It is also a common additive in energy drinks.
Taurine can also be naturally synthesized in the human body. It plays a role in energy production, assists in the processing of bile acids, and balances fluids, salt, and minerals.
Animal and Human Studies on Taurine
As we age, our bodies find it increasingly difficult to repair damage to cells, tissues, and organs, leading to a decline in our ability to combat diseases. At the same time, taurine levels in our bodies decrease with age. Scientists have thus wondered whether increasing taurine levels in the body could slow aging.
To test the potential of taurine, scientists first conducted research on animals. In a study published in the journal Science in 2023, researchers administered taurine to monkeys that were about 15 years old (equivalent to 45 to 50 human years) for six months. The results showed that compared with the control group, monkeys receiving taurine experienced increased bone density in the lumbar spine and legs, a 19 percent decrease in fasting blood sugar levels, and reductions in body weight and fat percentage. Additionally, taurine supplementation led to approximately 36 percent and 20 percent decreases in the serum concentrations of the liver damage markers aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase, respectively.
These results indicate that taurine benefits various health parameters in nonhuman primates, including body weight, bone density, blood sugar, and liver health. However, because of the relatively short observation period, the effect of taurine on the lifespan of monkeys was not analyzed, prompting scientists to conduct further research.
The researchers then fed taurine to middle-aged mice at 14 months old (equivalent to 45 human years) until their deaths. The results showed that compared with the control group, mice receiving taurine lived longer, with a 10 percent to 12 percent increase in median lifespan. These results indicate that taurine deficiency is a driving factor in mouse aging and that taurine supplementation can extend lifespan.
Moreover, significant improvement was observed in other health indicators compared with the control group. Specifically, taurine enhanced muscle strength, coordination, and bone density in mice while also improving memory, reducing anxiety, and rejuvenating their immune systems.
Does the efficacy of taurine in animals also apply to humans? One study published in Nutrition in 2022 highlighted the antioxidant effects of taurine on women aged 55 to 70. The decline in our bodies’ ability to cope with oxidative stress is a key factor that hinders our ability to repair body damage and prevent aging.
The study found that taurine supplementation can prevent the decrease of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase, thereby reducing oxidative stress during the aging process. This finding provides substantial evidence supporting taurine as an anti-aging supplement.

Safe Supplementation Dosage for Taurine
Taurine is not considered an essential amino acid as it can be synthesized in the human body. However, taurine synthesis requires essential amino acids as precursors, making it a conditionally essential amino acid.
Numerous studies have demonstrated that supplementing with a regular dose of taurine is safe. However, what exactly constitutes a regular dose? In a human study, participants were instructed to take 1,500 milligrams of taurine daily for 16 weeks, and the results showed that this dosage was safe.
However, there is no universal standard for the appropriate dosage of taurine. Generally speaking, a healthy individual can safely supplement with 30 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day, meaning a person weighing 60 kilograms (132.28 pounds) can supplement with 1,800 milligrams of taurine. Nonetheless, following medical advice or the recommended dosage indicated on the product label when taking taurine supplements is advisable.
Considerations for Taurine Use
Certain groups of people should not take taurine, including women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, people with heart failure, and those allergic to taurine.
For most people, taking a regular dose of taurine is safe. However, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor before adding any new nutritional supplement.
Taurine absorption and metabolism vary among individuals. Excessive taurine supplementation may lead to certain side effects, such as palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, muscle stiffness, and fever. Visual problems such as blurred vision, narrowed vision, and eye pain may also occur.
For individuals taking other medications, rest assured that taurine has no known severe or moderate interactions with them. However, taurine may have mild interactions with some drugs. If you are concerned about these interactions, discuss them with your doctor.
Additionally, many foods and beverages may contain added taurine. Therefore, when taking taurine supplements, be aware of its presence in other foods.
Last but not least, it is crucial to pay attention to the source and quality of taurine products.

No One On Wall Street Expects A Bad 2025

It’s true that stocks usually go up most of the time, but the market’s latest two-year run makes any cliché sound like an understatement.
Since bottoming in October 2022, the S&P 500 has returned roughly 66%.
The index is on track for back-to-back annual returns of more than 20% for the first time in over two decades, handily outpacing the 10% gain seen in an average year.
As you might guess, no one on Wall Street expects stocks to fall in 2025.
Among the 16 firms tracked by Opening Bell Daily, S&P 500 forecasts for the new year range between a 7% and 19% annual return from Friday’s closing price.
UBS holds the most bearish view with a year-end price target of 6,400, while Oppenheimer is the most optimistic at 7,100.
Traders on the prediction market Kalshi, meanwhile, see 17% odds the S&P 500 ends 2025 between 6,400 and 6,599, which lands in the middle of Wall Street’s forecasts.
Depending who you ask, the combination of Trump 2.0, hawkish Fed policy, inflation and fluctuations in the AI trade will provide either a tailwind or roadblock for equities.
It’s worth noting that Wall Street effectively never predicts a down year.
Even the weakest year-ahead forecasts of the last several decades have afforded stocks marginal gains. Those predictions don’t always hold — the S&P 500 has notched 13 losing years in the last 50 — but it’s rare to find a formal expectation for a loss.
Notably, over the last 24 years, forecasters’ price targets have actually missed the mark by 14% on average, according to Bespoke Investment Research.
Of course, even the most paltry track record won’t deter well-paid strategists from publishing their next prediction.
In any case, historical data favors the optimists. Across any 12-month stretch, stocks have finished higher three in four times.
Expand that time frame to five years and stocks trade higher nearly 90% of the time.
“We believe 2025 will see another year of healthy stock market returns, but with more volatility as investors return to reading every Federal Reserve tea leave and as we start to parse policy action out of Washington, especially when it comes to tariffs and taxes,” said Carol Schleif, chief market strategist for BMO Private Wealth.

Since 2007, when the fertility rate was at its most recent high, the number of births has declined 17%, and the general fertility rate has declined 21%, according to the new report.

A grand jury has indicted the man accused of fatally setting a woman on fire a New York City subway train, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.
Investigators said Sebastian Zapeta, 33, used a lighter to set the unidentified woman’s clothes on fire as she slept inside a train car at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station on Dec. 22.
Zapeta used a shirt to fan the flames, according to the criminal complaint. He is charged with one court of 1st degree murder, three counts of 2nd degree murder and one court of 1st degree arson related to the attack.

Local news Fox Baltimore reports three juveniles, including a 9-year-old, and two adults were arrested last Sunday in connection to an armed carjacking near the 3900 block of East Lombard Street.
“Once there, officers spoke with a 32-year-old woman who stated while stopped at a stop sign at Grundy at Bank Street, four male suspects approached her vehicle. One suspect, described as a white male, produced a metal tool, smashing her window. The suspect then proceeded to drag the woman from the vehicle and fled the location in the victim’s car,” the local outlet said.
Officers arrested a 21-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy, and a 9-year-old boy after a short foot pursuit. The 21 and 16-year-olds were taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility, while the 15-year-old was taken to the Department of Juvenile Services. The 9-year-old was released to his parents.

If we stay on the road that we are currently on, our society will die.
But if we reverse course and start doing what is right with all our hearts, anything is possible.
We were once a light to the entire world, and we can be that light again.
But at this moment our society is racing into the darkness, and it won’t be too long before our self-destructive behavior catches up with us in a major way.

La chasse aux pauvres est lancée. D'abord aux bénéficiaires du RSA tel que le rapporte FR3 Nord qui y consacré un très grand article:
"La lutte contre les profiteurs supposés du RSA, Christian Poiret en a fait une croisade. Le 18 novembre dernier, en séance plénière du Conseil Départemental du Nord, le président Divers Droite n'a pas mâché ses mots: "les départements, il faut qu'ils arrêtent de payer des personnes qui ne veulent pas travailler", a-t-il asséné à son auditoire.
Et de décliner le durcissement des sanctions. Depuis la fin octobre dans le Nord, l'allocataire voit son revenu de solidarité active amputé de 80% s'il ne se présente pas à un rendez-vous, contre une ponction de 100€ auparavant. 50% en moins s'il s'agit d'une famille. Le RSA, c'est 635€ pour une personne seule, mais 590€ si l'allocataire perçoit une aide au logement par exemple.
Le département du Nord, chargé du financement du RSA via la Caisse d'allocations familiales, donne le chiffre de 90.000 foyers allocataires, et se félicite d'en compter 16.000 de moins qu'en 2016: - 53 % sont des personnes isolées - 35% des familles monoparentales et 21% ont moins de 30 ans" lire ici FR3.
Ces pauvres là n'ont, dans la très majorité des cas, même pas de voiture pour se déplacer et chercher du travail en se rendant aux entretiens. Leur cas est d'une certaine façon réglé.
En remontant dans la hiérarchie des pauvres qui ont encore une voiture à disposition et qui peuvent en faire le plein, eh bien leurs jours sont également comptés grâce aux règles "vertes" émises par les municipalités de gauche...
Un paradoxe sachant que la gauche à la base devait défendre les pauvres...

Le 18 novembre dernier, en séance plénière du Conseil Départemental du Nord, le président Divers Droite n'a pas mâché ses mots: "les départements, il faut qu'ils arrêtent de payer des personnes qui ne veulent pas travailler", a-t-il asséné à son auditoire.
Et de décliner le durcissement des sanctions. Depuis la fin octobre dans le Nord, l'allocataire voit son revenu de solidarité active amputé de 80% s'il ne se présente pas à un rendez-vous, contre une ponction de 100€ auparavant. 50% en moins s'il s'agit d'une famille. Le RSA, c'est 635€ pour une personne seule, mais 590€ si l'allocataire perçoit une aide au logement par exemple.
Le département du Nord, chargé du financement du RSA via la Caisse d'allocations familiales, donne le chiffre de 90.000 foyers allocataires, et se félicite d'en compter 16.000 de moins qu'en 2016: - 53 % sont des personnes isolées - 35% des familles monoparentales et 21% ont moins de 30 ans" lire ici FR3.
Ces pauvres là n'ont, dans la très majorité des cas, même pas de voiture pour se déplacer et chercher du travail en se rendant aux entretiens. Leur cas est d'une certaine façon réglé.
En remontant dans la hiérarchie des pauvres qui ont encore une voiture à disposition et qui peuvent en faire le plein, eh bien leurs jours sont également comptés grâce aux règles "vertes" émises par les municipalités de gauche...
Un paradoxe sachant que la gauche à la base devait défendre les pauvres...
"Les véhicules classés Crit'Air 3 qui seront interdits de circuler dans la "Zone à Faibles Emissions" du Grand Paris au 1er janvier 2025 pour réduire la pollution de l'air, pourront déroger à ces nouvelles restrictions 24 jours par an. Ils ne seront pas contrôlés pendant un an (...)
Le Crit'Air 3 (certificat de qualité de l'air), soit les voitures diesel immatriculées avant 2011 et les voitures à essence d'avant 2006, vont pouvoir circuler dans la ZFE du Grand Paris 24 jours par an. Ils seront en outre dispensés de contrôle durant un an, selon l'arrêté de mise en place de la ZFE présenté par Patrick Ollier, lors d'un conseil métropolitain" lire ici France Bleu.
Et voilà, bien le bonjour les pauvres, d'autant que l'Etat y a mis sa 2e lame avec la suppression des aides pour acheter une voiture aux "normes" !!!
Ce que vous voyez là est en réalité un autre tableau: les riches veulent empêcher les trop pauvres et moyen pauvres de venir en ville, et je suis même étonné que la France Insoumise n'en ait pas fait un cheval de bataille.
Encore plus vicieux, ils leur donnent la permission de venir en ville mais uniquement les samedi et dimanches "au total 139 jours par an de dérogation qui seront accordés aux véhicules Crit'Air 3. Plus de 420.000 véhicules sont concernés par ces nouvelles restrictions, déjà appliquées aux vignettes Crit'Air 4 et 5.
Petite rappel chers lecteurs: "Si aucune pastille Crit'Air n'est collée, de façon visible, sur le pare-brise de votre véhicule, vous ne pourrez pas circuler dans les villes ou les quartiers ayant institué des mesures de restrictions de la circulation des véhicules pour restaurer la qualité de l'air. Et une amende forfaitaire de 68 € (pour voitures et deux-roues), et de 135 € (pour les véhicules lourds) sanctionne tout manquement".

Ce tableau de Vlad Bastion montre bien que les Etats-Unis, Singapour, Israel ont pompé une grande majorité des trilliards d'épargne disponibles vers leur bourse nationale. En effet qui aurait imaginé que les ETF de Tel-Aviv progresseraient de 32% en une seule année alors que tous les hommes en âge de combattre ont été mobilisés... dépassant les Américains qui affichent un 28% ?
Quelque chose ne colle pas...
Encore plus étrange, la bourse de Buenos Aires qui a donné un retour de 75% sur les ETF souverains.
De même, la bourse américaine représente a elle seule 64 trilliards de dollars, alors que tous les autres marchés financiers réunis (non américains) sont à 62 trilliards de dollars, le total de liquidités placées représentant un 126 trilliards de dollars placés dans des actions, ETFs, etc. La Lettre Kobeissi écrit:

Le marché américain est ENORME. Il est désormais perçu comme l'actif "risqué" le plus sûr. En d'autres termes, les investisseurs cherchant une exposition aux actions se tournent massivement vers les actions américaines.
Les "7 Magnifiques" (les 7 plus grandes technologiques américaines) à elles seules pèsent plus que l'intégralité des marchés boursiers de la plupart des pays. Jamais la concentration n'a été aussi forte. La capitalisation boursière de la plus grande entreprise américaine est désormais environ 750 fois plus élevée que celle de l'entreprise située au 75e centile du marché, un record absolu.
Ce ratio dépasse toutes les bulles précédentes. Au sommet de la bulle internet en 2000, ce ratio était d'environ 580 fois."
Traduction: le goût du risque est encore plus prononcé après les confinements que pendant la folie Internet !
