Iran will continue its nuclear program despite US aggression: Ex-Russia president
Russia’s former president and senior security official, Dmitry Medvedev, has said that despite the illegal aggression of the United States on three Iranian nuclear sites, the Islamic Republic is expected to continue with its peaceful nuclear program.
“Enrichment of nuclear material — and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons — will continue,” he wrote in a post on X on Sunday.
Medvedev's comments came hours after US President Donald Trump brazenly announced on his social media platform that American forces had bombed nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
The aggression, according to experts, amounts to a violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and a breach of international conventions.
It marks the fresh escalation in the ongoing, unprovoked Israeli aggression against Iran, which began on June 13, resulting in the martyrdom of several high-ranking military commanders, scientists, professors, athletes and school students.
“Critical infrastructure of the nuclear fuel cycle appears to have been unaffected or sustained only minor damage,” Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said.
He also highlighted that several countries are prepared to supply Iran with nuclear weapons, adding that the Iranian political system has not only survived but has “come out even stronger.”
The senior Russian official noted that Iranians are “rallying around the country’s spiritual leadership” at this critical moment when the country is under external aggression.
He also slammed Trump for launching another war despite campaigning as a “peacemaker,” and dismissed any prospects of the US president receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
According to Medvedev, “the absolute majority of countries” oppose the aggressive actions of both the US and the Israeli regime.
According to Press TV sources, air defenses around the underground nuclear sites targeted by the US were activated on time and the damage was averted, except at the entry and exit points.
The source added that all three sites had long been evacuated and the enriched uranium had also been relocated to a safe location.
