Israeli cabinet directs military to enhance security, intelligence cooperation with PA

The Israeli occupation army announced yesterday that the Israeli cabinet has ordered the strengthening of security and intelligence coordination with the Palestinian Authority (PA). Discussions are also underway regarding the provision of military equipment to the PA.

This development comes as Washington has urged Israel to provide urgent military assistance to the PA. The request follows the ongoing large-scale security operation conducted by PA security forces in the city of Jenin, located in the northern occupied West Bank.

The Walla news site reported that Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia had approved the PA’s campaign in Jenin.

According to the Israeli occupation army, discussions include transferring additional military equipment to PA security forces to assist them in dealing with resistance groups. This includes equipment for neutralising explosive devices and providing personal protection.

The assistance is expected to come primarily from international agencies, who will also be permitted to provide training to the PA’s security forces, as reported by Israeli outlets, including Haaretz.

The Israeli army stated that intelligence cooperation with the PA will be increased. It further clarified that its position is to support the strengthening of the PA’s mechanisms, provided it does not pose a threat to Israeli occupation soldiers or illegal settlers.
