In a tally of primary election results, Graham had 263,242 votes with nearly 100% reporting in the Republican race. His closest competition initially came from Greenville businessman Mark Lynch, but Lynch did not get enough votes to send the race to a runoff. Lynch racked up 133,931 votes, compared to Thomas Dismukes' 24,029 votes, Pat Herrmann's 17,376 votes, Calvin Cowen's 14,127 votes and Darius Mitchell's 10,793 votes.
