Hamas has accused Israel of carrying out massacres against civilians in the Gaza Strip, explaining that the Israeli military is exploiting regional tensions to intensify its operations.

In a press statement on Monday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said Israeli forces had carried out attacks that killed civilians in recent hours.

According to Qassem, an Israeli strike targeted a group of civilians west of Gaza City shortly before Iftar on Sunday, while artillery shelling at dawn on Monday struck tents sheltering displaced people, killing three women, including a journalist.

Qassem described the incidents as a dangerous escalation and a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

He also accused Israel of taking advantage of the international focus on the conflict involving Israel, the United States, Iran and Lebanon to intensify military operations in Gaza.

The Hamas spokesperson said Israel was tightening the siege on the territory by keeping border crossings closed, particularly the Rafah crossing.

Qassem further alleged that Israel was relying on unconditional US support in its regional operations to continue attacks in Gaza and to violate the ceasefire.

He called on international mediators to intervene to halt the Israeli military campaign, end violations against civilians and lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Qassem said targeting tents sheltering displaced people and continuing the siege constituted a disregard for international law and humanitarian norms.
